Day 18: Poplet; Piktochart; Socrative

Only 2 days for GAETI

Collaboration & mind-mapping: Poplet and Bubbl
It is very important for students to know how to collaborate in school and in the business world. At the middle school level, some students do not see the importance of effective communication. It is teachers job to make the collaboration meaning which can be done with Poplet and Bubble.

Infographic: Piktochart
Piktochart is a great software to create flyers and brochers instead of using Word or Publisher.

Making quizzes: Kahoot, Socrative, and Quizlet
Students enjoy using Kahoot in my class for review for assignments and tests. Socrative and Quizlet are also great tools for making quizzes fun for students.

Well, only 2 more days. I have REALLY learned a lot during this month. Thanks to all the GAETI professors!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAETI 2016!!!!!!!!!!!
I continue to enjoy GAETI and there are vast resources to take back to Fifth Street Jr. High School.

Web Quest: Zanal
Our group completed a web quest project on 'Make a Change' in Zanal; students will work in groups to research a problem in the school or a community and present their problem, solution in a PowerPoint presentation.     The following link is for http://zunal.com/webquest.php?w=325376

There are great resources for web quest activities on QuestGarden

Canvas 101
Canvas is a LMS, Learning Management System, for administrators, teachers, and students (parents). Teachers can get Canvas through MSU RCU or a free at https://canvas.instructure.com/login/canvas

Day 14: Canvas; Copyright; Camtasia

GAETI 2016
Ending the 3rd week with great resources!

Canvas
Canvas is a LMS, Learning Management System, which I use with my ICT II class. With Canvas, students download assignments, submit (upload) assignments, and take tests. I like Canvas because students can access their assignments and activities at home if they have access to the Internet.

Copyright
Staff from the MSU Library presented information about copyright which is very helpful when teaching copyright to students.

Camtasia
Camtasia is a multimedia software to record videos. Because technology will be technology, we only got a chance to setup our microphones.

Day 13: 1:1 (1:M) Initiative; Art; Flat Stanley Project

Pros and Cons for 1:1 (1:M) Initiative

1:1 Initiative is a program where ALL students within a school district have a Mac to keep for a school year. Each school district will have their own policies for 1:1 Initiative. If implemented correctly, I believe that 1:1 Initiative can be used in all subject areas to help improve student learning skills and help teachers improve their teaching skills.

Arts & Craft
My work in progress

Flat Stanley Project
Flat Stanley is a "flat" paper boy which can be used to make a video of Stanley being taken to different places. Creating a video in ICT allows students to be creative and apply their critical thinking skills. When creating the Flat Stanley Project, the 1:1 Initiative will be very helpful because students can work on the project a home.

Day 12: Lesson Plan, Arts & Craft, and Technology Planning

Plicker
I use Kahoot in my classroom to review for unit tests; but, I like Plicker better because students will not be able to cheat as easy. For example, Student A will look at Student B computer screen and when Student B selects an answer, Student A select the same answer. With Plicker, students will have a sheet of paper which they will hold up to be scanned by the teacher. Plickers can be used as a pre-test, a post-test, and to give surveys which students will create charts in Excel.

Day 11: MDOT and China Culture

Starting 3rd week off with great information

MDOT
Ms. Connie and Ms. Regina presented valuable resources to include in all subject areas. With  ICT II, students could use Google to research information of rockets and different types of bridges which we created a rocket and a truss bridge in class. Students could also use the design software to create the rocket and truss bridge. At Fifth Street, teachers teach on teams which include all subject areas, as teachers teach on a particular areas this could include how the rocket and truss bridge is created.

My group truss bridge

China Culture
Although China culture is different from the USA, education is very important in China and the USA. The average class size in the USA is 25 - 30 students and the average class size in Chine is 80 students.

Weathercast
Dr. Morris, also, gave a Powerpoint on creating a weathercast which would be great to teach cross curriculum with science and ICT.

Day 8: Weather forecaster, Geoscience, and Watercolor

Geoscience and Weather forecaster
We visited the Geoscience Department where teachers could actually be a weather forecaster. It is not as easy as it looks and I was a bodyless forecaster because I wore a green blouse, but it was fun. We also visited the Dunn-Seiler Museum  and completed a scavenge hunt which is another great field trip for students.

Day 6: Educational Games and Weebly

Another great day at GAETI!!!!!!

Educational Games
With the resources from GAETI, the educational games can be used as an enrichment for my ICT class. We had time today in the computer lab to search for educational games. When we completed the search, teachers discussed and shared their information which will be very helpful for the upcoming school year.

Weebly
Weebly is a great free web page software to be used in my classroom. ICT II has a unit on web page design and Weebly is a user friendly software for students. But, it is important for students to know some of the simple code to create a web page.

GAETI professors are the GREATEST!!!!!!

Day 4: Coal mine

I know that I haven blogged that GAETI is great; but, today has been absolutely awesome. The field trip about coal mining was great. It will be even greater to bring students on a field trip to learn about coal mining, the job opportunities, and meet the great individuals that work at the facility. I believe that every student should take a field trip to a coal mine to learn what coal mining is really about. It is more than just digging for coal.

Day 3: Google Map and Google Earth

Another great day at GAETI!!

Google Map and Google Earth
Students in my ICT II class usually go to Google Earth to see there house or another student house. I got some great ideas from the workshop at MSU Library to integrate Google Map and Google Earth into my class. Using Word, students can type a paper on a particular location and copy/paste the map, that they created in Google Earth, of the location into Word. Also, with Excel, students can create a spreadsheet with city, state, and address, along with other field names, and open the file in Google Earth for the a map of the different locations.

Anatomy of a Website
Web design is a unit in ICT II, students are required to create a simple web page. Students are also required to research the meaning of different colors that is relevant to their web page. With the anatomy of website lesson, I feel that I am heading in the right direction with my class. And I learned more techniques to teach my class on the anatomy of a website.

Day 2: Geography

It has been another awesome day at GAETI 2016.
Geography
Although I teach ICT II, I can integrate the activities about geography into the units especially with the technology. I think the students will be interest; I know that the activities will help students to think critically.
MSU Library Tour
The tour at MSU Library (Templeton Museum and the Grant Library) was interesting and educational. Students at Fifth Street Jr. High School should be exposed to the Templeton Museum and the Grant Library to help them with the history of music and their social studies class.
CS4MS
I am always willing to learn new technologies and strategies to help with my teaching. With that, I'm ready for CS4MS.

Day 1: Introduction

I am very excited to have been selected to participate in GAETI 2016. Today has been very interesting in learning about Magnolia, gmail, and blogging along with networking with others teachers. With Magnolia, students in my class will conduct research on various topics with each unit. Also, Magnolia will be very useful when incorporating other subject areas in ICT II projects. Although West Point Consolidated School District provides email for students in the district, I will demonstrate to students how to use gmail. With blogging, students will keep journals about their ICT II class. At the end of the school year, students will be able to reflect how they have progressed throughout the school year. I know that GAETI 2016 will provide me with resources that will help me to improve my teaching strategies.
